How Much Does a Dental Exam Cost?
How affordable can a dentist be? Dental exams typically cost at least $50 and often cost nearly $80. If you add in necessities like x-rays and cleanings, a short trip to the dentist could end up costing around $300, and if you don’t have insurance, you’ll pay that $300 out-of-pocket.
Now, for the good news! At Kool Smiles Kids Club, we believe that the cost of a dental exam should never be a barrier to accessing quality care. Keep reading to learn more about how Kool Smiles’ partner dentists make quality care affordable.

We understand the importance of dental care, especially for children. We also know that the cost of dental care can place strain upon a family. Kool Smiles Kids Club has partner dentists who go above and beyond to make dental care affordable, by:
- Accepting Medicaid, CHIP (formerly SCHIP), TRICARE, and most private insurance policies.
- Accepting cash, credit, or a combination of both.
- Welcoming patients who’ve enrolled in the CareCredit financing program.
- Working on weekends to ensure more parents can take their child to the dentist without taking time off work.
Are Dental Exams Necessary?
In short, yes. A child should have his or her first dental exam within six months of their first tooth erupting, or around the age of one. Beyond that, it’s recommended that everyone (children and adults alike) schedule a routine exam every six months.
At a routine checkup, a dentist will check for tooth decay, gum health issues, and signs of oral cancer. A checkup with a dentist goes beyond oral health, though, as they’ll also check for signs of diabetes, osteoporosis, chronic kidney disease, nutritional deficiencies, and more.
