What Is the Average Cost of Dental Bridges?

The cost of dental bridges depends on a range of factors, including which dentist you choose, what type of bridge is required, the size of the bridge needed to fill the gap, and the complexity of the placement. A single-tooth bridge can range in price from $500 to $1,200.

Here’s what you need to know about dental bridges:

What Are Dental Bridges?

Humans have been correcting missing teeth with dental bridges for millennia. Historically, dental bridges were made from other people’s teeth. Thankfully, dentistry has come a long way since then. These days, dental bridges are made from:

  • Resin
  • Zirconia
  • Metal alloy coated in resin
  • Ceramic
  • Porcelain

There are four different types of dental bridges:

  • Traditional bridges that are held up by two crowns – one on each side of the gap. This is the most common type of bridge.
  • Cantilever bridges, which are held in place by only one crown. A cantilever bridge is most often used when there’s only one tooth adjacent to the gap.
  • Maryland bonded bridges are similar to traditional bridges in that they’re anchored to two adjacent teeth. Unlike traditional bridges, though, Maryland bridges are attached using small wings that are bonded to the backs of the teeth.
  • Removable bridges are the least costly option, but they’re not as stable as fixed bridges. A removal bridge is held in place (but not attached) by a metal frame, and it can be popped out for cleaning.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a quick-fix – the results are instant and include:

  • A gapless smile
  • Improved ability to eat
  • Corrected speech
  • Better bite balance

How Long Do Dental Bridges Last?

A permanent bridge typically lasts between 10 and 15 years with good habits. A bridge doesn’t demand any special care – care for it as you do your natural teeth:

  • Brush twice a day or after meals
  • Floss at least once a day
  • Use ADA-approved mouthwash
  • Visit a dentist twice a year
  • Avoid smoking
